Women and Children Health organization (WCHO) recognises that rates of infant mortality stands at 63,000 deaths per 1,000 live birth while, maternal mortality ration according to Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Ministry of Health 2017 stands at 1160 deaths per 100,000 live births; HIV/AIDS infection prevalence stands at 2.1 %( CDC.2021). Women and children including persons with disability have equal rights to health through appropriate opportunity and ability to access preventive, promote, curative and rehabilitative health services by identifying existing imbalances and creating enabling environment for maintaining optimum health, accessing and utilizing quality health services. It will seek to address the main causes of death among children and mothers through practical measures aimed at:

Goals:

  • Improving the health of children
  • Promoting school-based health and nutrition education
  • Educating for Sexual Reproductive health and Rights (SRHR) of young people, women, girls and boys, including HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention
  • Preventing and controlling infectious disease
  • Improving reproductive health and family planning
  • Identifying and addressing factors influencing gender disparities and constraints in health and quality provision of health care services.
  • Incorporating gender concerns into various aspects of healthcare promotion and disease control programmes with special focus on the vulnerable and disadvantaged (Women and Children including persons with disability).
  • Strengthening health information and monitoring system adhering to gender mainstreaming in its intervention areas.
  • Developing and focusing, especially on areas of striking imbalance in health among men and women in the health sector.
